Tourist In My Own Backyard

With new single “That’s Enough For Me” due for release on 3 March 2014 through Vista Records, folktronica-tinged artist Dan Clews continues his upward trajectory.  The new material on the album “Tourist In My Own Backyard” - itself to be released 28 April 2014 - packs a punch; melodies and lyrics are delivered in an assured and beguiling style.  There’s an easy confidence here, based upon a knowledge of how to play to his strengths.  Dan draws from a diverse spectrum of styles, places and people; the album feels immediately like an old friend. Hailing from one of the last remaining traditional strawberry farms in Kent, space and storytelling provide the inspiration for his songwriting landscape.  As well as gigging around the country, recently supporting Downtown Abbey actress Elizabeth McGovern’s band Sadie & The Hotheads, Dan has become known for his performances at his low-key ‘festivals’ held on the farm. The boy from the strawberry fields soon found a mentor and publisher in George Martin.  He secured a publishing deal with George Martin Music. Sir George said, “I was introduced to Dan Clews by a friend. I have always tried to support young musicians, and Dan's music impressed from the first listen. He is too great a talent to ignore and it's a great pleasure to be his publisher.” Dan’s songs have already found a willing audience.  His previous single, “Move Too Fast”, spent five weeks on the Radio 2 playlist. Dan has recorded over 20 BBC radio sessions, the high point being one for Bob Harris Radio 2 show. Dan has also supported Level 42 on their recent UK tour and was invited to accompany Tim Minchin for various charity shows at Shepherds Bush Empire, Hammersmith Apollo and a live session on XFM. An artist with a true sense of purpose, his own fresh material and an original voice, Dan Clews represents the very best in natural, instinctive British talent.  It is high time for this “Tourist In My Own Backyard” to set his sights further afield…
